World Book Day

WORLD BOOK DAY 2025

World Book Day 2025 was a joyful celebration of stories, creativity and our shared love of reading at St Dominic’s. The day began with a whole-school assembly led by Miss Marriott, who introduced our focus text, The Bear and the Piano. Through an engaging quiz in the hall, children explored the story and its themes, helping to raise excitement and enthusiasm for the day ahead. The book tells the story of a young bear who discovers a piano and teaches himself to play, leading him on an adventure filled with friendship, family and success. This inspiring text linked beautifully with our belief in recognising and developing our God-given talents.

Children marked the day by creating masks of their favourite book characters, showcasing imagination, effort and creativity. A competition for the most creative designs added to the excitement and pride in their work. In the afternoon, different year groups paired up to share stories together. EYFS and Key Stage 1 children brought in a teddy bear, while Key Stage 2 pupils brought their favourite book to read aloud to a younger child. These special shared reading moments created a warm, nurturing atmosphere across the school and perfectly reflected the joy, connection and love of reading that World Book Day is all about.
