At St Dominic’s, we want every child to be happy and enthusiastic learners of Music and to be eager to achieve their very best in order to fulfil their God-given talents. We firmly believe that the recipe for success is high quality teaching in Music, which is central to the life of our happy, caring school.
We use the Charanga Model Music Curriculum scheme to deliver music lessons.
What our children say about Music at St Dominic's:
"We've been playing the recorder this year. Our teacher has been helping us to learn new notes, but we also make sure we go over the notes we have already learnt too."
"We learn music so that we can be more musical and learn new things."
"We learn different types of music and can learn instruments. We can learn about musicians and composers too."
"I enjoy Music because it brings everyone together."
"I enjoy hearing everyone trying and having fun, whilst at the same time learning an instrument together."

Composer of the Term (Autumn 2022) - Andrew Lloyd Webber
This term we will be focusing on the life and work of Andrew Lloyd Webber, a British composer of musical theatre. The children will explore the wide-range of music he produced throughout his career and share their own favourites from his famous musicals (including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Cats, and Phantom of the Opera). They will identify and describe the genres and instruments using their own musical vocabulary.
WCET Concert 2022 - Year 3
Composer of the Term (Summer 2022) - Florence Price
As a school, we enjoy having a composer to focus upon to expose the children to a wide and varied range of music and composers from around the world (both modern and from history). This term we are learning about Florence Price, an African-American female composer from the 20th century.
The children will be considering her genre of music and the influence of it upon the world, as well as identifying instruments and describing the music using their own musical vocabulary.
