Year 1
Autumn 25-26
This term, Year 1 have been learning about different materials that everyday objects are made from. They explored materials such as wood, metal, plastic, glass and fabric. They learned how to describe them using words like hard, soft, shiny, rough, bendy and smooth. The children enjoyed investigating the properties of materials and thinking about why certain materials are chosen for specific purposes.
Bubble Snakes Fun!
Our Y1 Scientists had so much fun making bubble snakes. We tested different materials to see which one would make the best bubbles and we discovered that fabric worked the best. The children loved experimenting, observing and comparing their results - all while creating some amazing, bubbly fun!
Y1 became super Scientists and explored different materials to find out which ones would make the best umbrellas for our friend Bot the alien who's planning a trip to our rainy planet Earth. We tested materials like paper, tissue, tinfoil and plastic to see which one was the most waterproof. After lots of experimenting (and a few soggy surprises), we discovered that plastic is the best waterproof material. To finish our project, we wrote letters to Bot explaining our findings. The children were fantastic thinkers, testers and writers - Bot will be very impressed!
