MENTAL HEALTH

Year 5 marked Children’s Mental Health Week by exploring this year’s theme, Belonging. We discussed what it means to feel included, valued and supported, and how we can help others feel like they belong. Through thoughtful activities and discussions, the children reflected on the importance of kindness, friendship and being part of a community. We loved wearing yellow and singing along to song such as This Is Me.

SAFEINTERNET DAY

Year 5 enjoyed celebrating Safer Internet Day by learning about Artificial Intelligence (AI). We explored what AI is, how it is used, and how to use it safely and responsibly. The children developed a better understanding of staying safe online and thinking carefully about the information AI provides.

NUMBER DAY 2026

Year 5 had a brilliant day celebrating Number Day! We planned a party using a budget of £50, looked at some shopping deals and decided whether they were good or not, and opened a Smoothie Shop that created delicious smoothies while also trying to make a profit. To finish the day off, we played Times Table Bingo and Hit the Button.

THE FIRE STATION

Year 5 had an amazing visit to the fire station! 🚒

They learned all about fire safety, water safety, and road safety, met real firefighters, and asked some brilliant questions. A huge thank you to the fire service for keeping our pupils informed, inspired, and safe! 👏🔥💧🚦

Children have been tasked with learning their address incase of any emergencies and having an ‘evacuation’ plan ready with family. Safety first! ✅

VICTORIAN DAY

Year 5 were transported back in time to the Victorian Period today to make their very own gingerbread. Children measured and weighed their ingredients by following their Victorian instructions and working collaboratively. We can’t wait to taste a few this afternoon after our Victorian workshop 🖊️ ✏️
For the afternoon, Year 5 had an incredible surprise when a very special visitor arrived… all the way from Victorian London! 👀
The children stepped back in time and experienced a real Victorian-style school session. They worked hard on the Three Rs – Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic, taking great care with their handwriting and mental maths. 📝➗
They also took part in some traditional drill practice, marching, standing to attention, and following instructions with perfect Victorian discipline! 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

Bootcamp

🌟 Year 5 Boot Camp Champions! 🌟

Today our Year 5 pupils took on a Boot Camp–style PE lesson… and absolutely smashed it! 💪🔥

From military-style drills to tough strength challenges and high-energy endurance tasks, every single child pushed themselves, showed brilliant teamwork, and kept those positive attitudes shining. ⭐

Computing

Our amazing Year 5s have been hard at work in Computing this week — and they’ve created their very own code for a football game! ⚽💻

COASTS

In Year 5 geography, students used play dough to bring coastal erosion processes to life by modelling landforms such as arches, stacks, stumps, and caves. This hands-on activity helped them visually understand how these features are formed over time through the forces of erosion. As they sculpted each landform, pupils labelled their models to show the stages of formation and the role of the sea in shaping the coastline. They also discussed key processes like abrasion, where rocks and sediment grind against the cliffs, and hydraulic action, where the power of the water forces air into cracks, causing the rock to break apart. This interactive lesson deepened their understanding of erosion in a creative and engaging way.

RESIDENTIAL

Year 5 went on their residential to Laches Wood at the start of October. Children took part in a range of activities including bushcraft, frisbee golf, archery, caving and rock climbing.

Rio De Janeiro - Children in Y5 have created their own powerpoints for their Geography unit on South America.

Year 5 Following Jesus: My journey of Faith and Kindness

For an RE homework project, children were asked to create a project about their journey in Faith. They needed to provide examples of how they have shown kindness, patience and forgiveness, and talk about a gospel story that inspires them. Look below to see how we plan to live out our Mission
